Norwich Community Darkroom

If you’d like to find your own way into the real magic of the black & white medium, you might find PRINTING-only sessions in the darkroom an ideal entry point from which everything else flows. If you’re an absolute beginner, a curious artist, or if you have old family negs to make prints from, then this is the place for you.

Bring your black & white negatives of any age or era, to your first session - or ask to learn photogramming, double exposure, contact prints, or other cameraless/alt processes. We’ll also be developing learning exercises to accompany each unique enlarger, and offer users independent learning opportunities, as well as in-person expert tutoring onsite if required.

8 Black & White enlargers using Multigrade/Variable Contrast paper are revved-up and running again, in Dark Mode public darkroom, Upper Goat Lane, in the heart of Norwich Lanes. All sessions are staffed and supervised by a member of the darkroom team. We might even have fruit tea refreshments, and chilled music playing in our comfortable lobby seated area - but it would only be Khruangbin, Keith Jarrett, or Mozart. You think I’m joking? Sessions are 3 hours am or pm, (Saturday & Monday only) or Wednesday evenings (6.00pm - 9.00pm)

Printing is more sociable - and much cheaper - if you bring friend(s) Sure it’s fun for one, but great value for 2, or 3, or (max) 4 ~ You’ll get a great group discount \O/ making B&W printing possible for only £5 or £6 per hr/per person

You’ll also get a free photo paper pack for your first session, which also includes free inductions for any group members or friends you book and bring, and free darkroom membership for you and your friends for your first year. All sessions are 18yrs-&-over & supervised in a clean, temperature-stable & ventilated space, ensuring you work in comfort.

   Whether you’re flying solo or booking a small group, to book your first 3 hr session, decide how much time you want..

   Click BOOK on the top option “Darkroom Session (3 hrs)” to find a session, click on your preferred date and time.

   (If a session date you wanted to book is not showing, it means it is full, or not running, so it won’t be listed in the viewable date options)

   Click BOOK on the second option,“Darkroom Session (Full Day)” for 2 × 3hr sessions on a Saturday or Monday (inc. 1hr break for lunch)

   You can also buy extra paper in advance of your session, in addition to your first pack of free b&w photo paper.
